Emergency fund – meeting the costs of care for the poorest patients
80% of Madagascans live in extreme poverty. As there is no universal health insurance, Doctors for Madagascar covers the medical costs for patients who otherwise could not afford medical care.
JULIUS EMMRICH
Julius Emmrich has been the chairman of Ärzte für Madagaskar since 2011. He works as an assistant neurologist and as a researcher in neurology at the Charité hospital in Berlin.
Rice for blood
Shortly after sunset, a crowd of perhaps 40 people rush onto the hospital grounds. Everyone’s in a frenzy – a sure sign of a severely injured patient.
NADINE MULLER
Nadine Muller is a trustee of Ärzte für Madagaskar and president of the sister charity in Luxemburg, Médecins pour Madagascar. In both charities, she is active in the areas of infectious diseases and fundraising.
LOTTI KRINGS
Lotti Krings is a trustee of our sister charity in Luxemburg, Médecins pour Madagascar, and is involved mostly in fundraising and communications.
BIRGITTA FINK
Birgitta Fink has been working for Ärzte für Madagaskar as its treasurer since its foundation. She is a business economist.
TANTELY RAJAONA
Since the summer 2015, our team in Fotadrevo has been supported by an energetic local coordinator, Tantely Rajaona. She lives and works in the Fotadrevo hospital and is our chief person responsible on site.
MIKE ZAKIEWICZ
Mike Zakiewicz is a Chartered Accountant working for a firm of solicitors in Westminster. He was appointed treasurer of Doctors for Madagascar UK after hearing of the work done by our project partners.
